Eagles Win First League Title

The Central Methodist University Esports team finished the spring 2020 season with some history, winning the school’s first league title in its short existence.

The Eagles dominated the Gold division of the Eastern College Athletic Conference, going undefeated and claiming the League of Legends league title. CMU also ended the season with a top-five ranking in the ECAC Fortnite league, in which they competed against 43 other institutions from both the NCAA and NAIA.

Despite being denied the opportunity to compete in the League of Legends playoffs, the Eagles were able to finish the school year with an overall record of 61-62. The historic year included eight playoff appearances, two national rankings, and one league title, much to the delight of head coach Aaron Shockley.

“I am so proud of the program and the success we have achieved early in our history,” Shockley said, adding that he believes that success will only translate to more of the same in the coming seasons.

“I am excited and looking forward to next season,” he said. “Our recruitment efforts have really paid off and will better prepare us for the next level of competition. I can’t wait to see what next season will bring for our Eagles.”
